Water, Mafia ... and the Italian Resisting Society

The calabrian Cultural Association Associazione Il Brigante, of Serra San Bruno,  which campaigns for the protection of the public good and the environmental health - an example for all is the fight for the reservoir of' Alaco - has found a severed head of sheep at the foot of the door entrance of the headquarters on the evening of April 9, 2013, shortly after 22.30, in a classic  intimidating - 'Ndrangheta threat. The Cultural Association, which is in the political and cultural heart of the Calabrian Serre , has long been at the center of important struggles of civilization in southern Italy through the dissemination of knowledge, music, theater, traditions of Calabria region. Recently, the focus was on multiple fronts, such as the question of "water as a common good ", the protection of public health, the spread of values and principles of legality and justice through direct and active participation in parades, events and conferences in constant and continuous partnership with other collective socio-political clubs and various local associations and cultural

The Association also is part of the  Coordinamento Calabrese per l' Acqua Pubblica  ( Water as Public Good entitled to "Bruno Arcuri."  For almost twenty years has been fighting to bring out the truth about the management of the reservoir dell'Alaco, in Calabria, and the pollution of its waters. The Association Il Brigante is fighting  to start an "operation truth" on the dell'Alaco, collecting evidence and launching appeals to inform citizens of the Serre Vibonesi, also struggling because they do not drop silence on the battles for the legality in this area of Calabria where he feels the strong influence of the 'Ndrangheta ( the specific mafia of Calabria).

From the words of an interview released by the Association to the newspaper Il Vizzarro:

"In Serra San Bruno, a territory in which the silence and submission have sadly become daily bread, a place of social gathering, sharing of ideas and struggle is obviously felt very uncomfortable from the underworld. The 'Ndrangheta and the powers allied to this - intent on preserving the status quo with the weapon of arrogance, abuse of power and, as in this case, the vulgar threat - you probably do not know and cannot tolerate "hotbeds" of freedom and legality and try to silence them with symbols belonging to an ancestral practice, full of cowardice and a desire to intimidate that remain, however, this time, unsatisfied. Such attacks do not scratch our hunger for freedom.  It's the only price to pay for wanting to live in a better society. "
